Driving lessons. Cars with manual gearbox

manual car testOur new Peugeot is the most popular car for our students who require training on a vehicle with a manual gearbox.

As a learner you will be "in control" but have the knowledge that the instructor is ready to take over at a seconds notice using our Dual Control system which is fitted to all our cars.

It is generally acknowledged that learning to drive in a car fitted with manual transmission is a little bit more difficult than in a car fitted with automatic transmission. Obviously the learner has to deal with clutch control as well as all the other things that are important when driving a car. On the plus side, it is generally accepted that a driver has more control over a car with manual transmission in terms of acceleration and controlling it in wet and icy conditions. Most manual cars return about the same fuel consumption as modern automatics which was not the case until fairly recently when manuals were considered to be more economical than automatics.

Pictured above is one of our latest Peugeot 107 cars which are used for both manual and automatic lessons. These great little cars make learning to drive a pleasure as, whilst they are large inside and have plenty of room for the driver and passengers, they also have outstanding visibilty to the front and rear making fixed manoeuvres and reversing much easier and these are both requiremnts of the test.
