Applying for the theory test
You can take the theory test as soon as you reach your 17th birthday providing you have a valid provisional driving licence and appropriate identification. You need to make an appointment for the test in advance. In the Telford area you will have to travel to Shrewsbury for the theory and hazard perception tests as these are not currently conducted at Telford.
The Theory Test currently costs £31.00 and the practical test is £62.50. You can pay by cheque or postal order with a written application or by debit or credit card for a telephone booking.
If you have a debit or credit card the best way to book is by telephone, (see telephone system below for number). You will also need your driver number, (on your provisional driving licence) and a pen & paper to write down your booking reference number and other details. It is best to avoid telephoning on a Monday if possible as the phone lines are at their busiest.
